Cross Country Zones

Yesterday I went to cross country zones it was so fun! I really want to share my amazing experience with you, so here it is:

My heart was beating rapidly, my legs turning to jelly. Should I stop? Should I give up? No, I can't. Can I? There was only a few hundred meters to go, I have got to do it, I know I can. Adrenalin rushed through my body, I started to sprint.  When was this going to finish? Inch by inch, the finish line was getting closer. Untill, there it was, right infront of me one more stride and I had done it, then It would all be over. All my energy had drained out of me by the time I had finaly crossed finish line. Thank goodness it was over, but I can't wait to do it next year!

At prize giving, our team (VAS year 6 girls) won third prize in the team competition. I am really proud of it, I would like to thank: Miss Whitington

10 facts on the building of the Berlin Wall

Here are some extreme facts on the Berlin wall

☝ There were two sides to Germay, East Germany, the communists, and West Germany. The berlin wall was a wall built to stop people from escaping East Germany.

☝ Constructoin on the wall started on 13 August 1961. There were many protests about the wall           seperating germany.
☝ Many people tried to escape East Germany, but due to the large ammount of guards, it was impossible to get over there. Over 136 people died trying to escape.

☝ John F. Kennedy and Ronald Regan both visited Germany while the wall was still up, and both wrote speeches wanting the wall to come down.

☝ On the 19 November 1989 the East Germany goverment declaired that "Permanent relocations can be done through the border checkpoints between East and South Germany."

☝ After that announcement, people rushed to the check points to greet family that they hadn't seen in nearly three decads

☝ People chipped away at the wall to get a piece of it as a memior.

☝ The Berlin Wall was up for 28 years and had come as a shock for people, as the work started without any announcements whatsoever.

☝ If you happened to be on the other side of the wall that night, that would be your home for the next 28 years!

☝ There have been many heroic escapes from East Berlin, and I will tell you about one: Two 18 year old boys planned on scaling the wall. Their plan was simple, run up, then climb. The first man made it , but Peter Fecher was not so lucky. Just before he got to the wall, a guard started shooting. He kept climbing, but just before he reached the top, he collapsed. Peter toppled down, back into East Germany. The guards just left him to bleed to death.

Something to do with science

Matter

Matter is pretty much everything around you. It is made up of three things,

◆ Liquids
◆Gasses
◆Solids

E=mc2

This is one of Albert Einstein's most famous discoveries. It explains how matter is really the same as energy just in a different form. Matter can be turned into energy and energy can ge turned into energy, an example of this would be wind and water power, wind is a gas and water is a liquid but they can both be turned into power.

In E=mc2 every digit or letter means somethig very important, this I will explain now:

E=  Energy

M= Matter

And C2 explains that they can be made so that they can become each other.

Biography - Jacqueline Kennedy

You are walking through the White House, photographers are crammed up against the window trying to catch a glimpse of you. You are Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.
Also known as Jackie Kennedy, the 35th  first lady of the white house, one of the youngest and most loved first ladies of the White House. In this mini biography I will tell you about the amazing life of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

Childhood

Jacqueline Lee Bouvier was born in New York. Her father, John Bouvier who was known as Black Jack, was a successful Wall Street stockbroker. Her mother was Janet Norton Lee. Her only sibling was a sister called Caroline Lee Bouvier.
She lived in a big  property known as "Lasata." Jacqueline enjoyed doing equestrian, drawing, reading and writing poems. In 1940 her parents divorced. In 1942, her mother remarried to Hugh D. Auchincloss. She had two children with him. Their names were Janet and James Auchincloss.
Jacqueline went to many schools, including Chapin's, Miss Porter's and Vassar College.  She also spent one year in Paris, studying at La Sorbonne. Jacqueline also went to George Washington University and graduated with a bachelors degree in French literature.

Pre marriage

After her graduation, she was employed as an ''inquiring photographer'' for the Washington Time Herald. During that time Jackie was, for three months engaged to a man called John Husted.
John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy attended the same parties and had the same friends, but they were only formally introduced in May 1952. After that they started dating. In June 25, 1953 it was made public that JFK and Jacqueline Lee Bouvier were engaged.

Marriage

On the 12 of September, 1953, JFK and Jacqueline Lee Bouvier were getting married. They were married in a Catholic Church called St Mary's in Newport, Rhode Island. 700 guests were invited to the mass. Even more guests were at the reception,  1 200 guests attended the amazing after party held at Hammersmith farm.
The couples honeymoon was in Acapulco, Mexico. After that, they moved into their new house in McLean, Virginia.

Family

The Kennedy's had many children together, two girls and 2 boys. Their first born was a stillborn baby girl called Arrabella Kennedy. In 1957 they had their next child, Caroline Kennedy. After her, in 1960 they had a boy called John. Their last child was called Patrick, but he died soon after he was born from a disease called Hyline Membrane Disease.

Election

On January the 3, 1960 JFK announced his campaign to become president. Jacqueline's doctor advised it best for here to stay at home because of the difficulties of here pregnancies. So Jacqueline still helped her husband's campaign by, taping commercials, answering letters, having interviews (printed and televised) and writing a newspaper column called "Campaign wife."
John F. Kennedy, a Democrat, beat Republican candidate Richard Nixon in the US presidency elections in 1960 and became president of the United States of America.

Life in the White House

Jacqueline Kennedy became one the youngest first ladies ever when JFK was sworn in as president on January the 20, 1961. As well as being one of the youngest, she was also one of the most popular as she was beautiful, young and stylish and threw great parties.

JFK Assassination

On the 21 of November 1963 JFK and Jackie Kennedy went on a trip to Texas. After breakfast on the 22 John, Jacqueline, the Texas governor John Connally and his wife Nellie flew from Fort Worth's Carswell Air force base to Love Field.
A 15.3 km motorcade would take them to trade mart where the president would speak at a lunch. The motorcade turned around a corner on Elm Street when Jacqueline heard what she thought was a motor cycle backfiring, she did not realize it was a gunshot until she heard John Connally scream. In 8.4 seconds there were two more gunshots. The final gunshot struck John F. Kennedy in the head.  His brain matter splattered over Jackie’s pink suit.
The car was rushed to Dallas's Parkland Hospital. JFK was quickly put in  a trauma room. Initially Jacqueline stayed outside but then insisted on being let in to the room that JFK was dyeing in. A nurse tried to bar the door, but Jacqueline did not give in. Eventually JFK's doctor persuaded the nurse to let her in by saying, "It is her right, it is here prerogative (choice)."

The Onassis marriage

After JFK’s death Jackie married another man, Aristotle Onassis.  He was a very wealthy shipping magnate.  He was older than her by 23 years, short and unattractive. It is thought Jackie married him to escape America and protect her children. Bobby Kennedy, JFK’s brother, was also assassinated in 1968 and Jackie is reported as saying, “ If they are killing Kennedy's my children are targets and I want to get out of this country.”  The  marriage was not a happy one. Onassis had affairs with other women and they lived a part for most of the marriage until his death in 1975.

Death

On January 1994, Jacqueline was diagnosed with cancer, and in April the disease had spread. Jacqueline died in her sleep at 10:45, May 19 that year.
Her funeral was held at Saint Ignatius Loyla church, the same church as she was baptized, in 1929. In her will she left her children an estate valued at  $43.7 million.

Nick Willis

For homewok this week we have to writea recount about a NZ athlete who competed in the olympics, we must write it in their perspective and on the race/event that they competed in.

Here is my recount on Nick Willis:

READY! SET! BANG! Adrenalin rushed through my body as the sprung off the starting block. Left right left right, my legs were starting to explode with power. The runners beside me were slowly moving backwards, in the margain of a few seconds I went from last to fourth.

The first and second lap went fairly quickly, but now my leg were starting to feel like jelly. I tried to keep my place but iI was only falling behind, at least I was not the only one. The two Kenyans were falling behind too. On the final lap instead of moving foward I was moving backwards. My pace was falling apart and I could hardly find enough air in my lungs. All chance of winning a medal was gone, I was gutted but I had to finish this race.

At 100 meters to go, I was comming nineth the Kenyans comming last. At the end I knew that I had not run a very good race and that that first, second and third had just run a better race than me. When photographers and reporters crowed around me I wished for them to go away and let me suffer in silence, but, then again I had to at humble to my defeat.

What it would be like to be as my mum

My mum is an amazing person, and is always so calm, even when my brothers and I are being very, very annoying, like we always are. So I wondered, what it may be like to be a mother.
Here are some ideas,

♡  Our bedrooms, my bedroom is always soo messey, how do mums cope?
♡  Mothers are always doing house hold chores, dishes, vacuming ect.
♡  Coping with our tantrums, I'm sure all of us throw big tantrums every so often and when we do,     our mums are always there to calm us down.
♡  Mums also have to look after our dads, my mum says dads are just like children.
♡  As well as husbands and children, women also have to look after themselves.

Being a mother must be very stressful, so I think that we should hep our parents by, doing chores, not throwing so many tantrums and many more.

The Olympic Opening Ceremony

This week for homework we had to write about or favourite bit in the London 2012 Olympic opening ceremoney, this is what I did:

The making of the olympic rings

Forged in ‘The Isles of wonder’, the olympic rings were still burning hot steel circles rising up into the sky. The sound of aplause rising higher and higher along with the rings. Down below, metal workers were still hard at work, making the last of the 5 olympic rings. A loud voice boomed out of the speakers and there was a hush as the audience fell silent...

James Bond and the Queen

“Mr bond?” a voice echoed through the room. James Bond stood there silently as the figure turned around. Then for a few seconds it was silent, mouths fell open and eyes widened.
“Yes your royal highness,” Bond replied, “Are you ready?”
“Yes”
James Bond and the Queen made their way to an awaiting helicopter. James clambered in and then helped the Queen up into the immense machine. The helicopters wings started to to turn, faster and faster until  was lifted up into the air. Then the clip stopped...
This time, it was dark and the Queen and Bond were hovering up in the night sky. Bond nodded and the Queen briskly strode to the door at the end of the helicopter. No, it can’t be, it almost looked as though the Queen would jump off the helicopter; but that was Bond’s job, wasn’t it?
To Be continued...

My Speech: How To Hide Vegetables

How to hide vegetables

You see a plate full of vegetables and you wonder, how are you going to eat all of this? Red, green yellow, orange, no matter how colorful they are, they are still veges. Even the thought of it is disgusting.

I’m sure you have all been in this situation at least one time in your life but have you ever tried to hide vegetables?
Hiding vegetables takes some skill because you have to be able to slip your veges away without your caregivers seeing.
In this speech I will teach you the art of ‘hiding vegetables’ ...

Firstly, you must never ever say “Ewww!!” when you see vegetables on your plate, for if you do your mothers beady eyes will be on you watching your every move and if that happens, well, game over.
When the plate arrives with the disgusting vegetables say “that looks delicious.”

She feels good and she, hopefully, with trust you to be mature and eat the veges.  Trust is key.

Now to start phase two.
When you know your mum and dad have left the table you must quickly and quietly put your vegetables in your mouth, don’t eat them just store them. Then you must go to the nearest toilet, close the door and spit the veges out into the toilet bowl. Wait about 30 seconds and then flush the toilet. Walk out and wash your hands in the sink (this will make it seem more realistic)

When you walk out, go back and sit on your chair, then pretend to eat your vegetables. After about one minute, take your plate up to your parents and say something around the lines of “look mum and dad I’m finished, may I please leave the table,”

hopefully they will believe that you have actually eaten your vegetables and that you are a mature trustworthy child.
There other ways to hide vegetables, but that one is the most foolproof. One those other ways I will explain to you now.

  The book

The book trick is probably my number one way to hide vegetables. First you make sure that a book is within reach of you on the table.

Next, make sure your book or calender is upright so that it looks like a triangular prism without a top or bottom. Now, when your parents are not looking, slip your veges into the corner of the book, then, turn the page of the book so that your vegetables are concealed. after dinner take the book out of the room and then tip all the vegetables in to the bin.

In this speech I will have hopefully taught you how to hide vegetables. So next time you see a plate full of vegetables, never fear ‘cause hope is there. And with these amazing strategies, you will never have to eat another vegetable again!
